Mateo concentrates his practice on tax and wealth protection. He advises companies, family groups and individuals on the design of tax-efficient structures, optimization of tax burdens and tax planning. He also gives advice on international taxation and compliance with material and formal obligations to tax administrations. He advises clients on tax assessment and penalty processes and challenges through administrative and court channels.
Mateo was awarded the prestigious Hauser Global Scholarship to complete his LL.M. at New York University (2024), making him the first Ecuadorian lawyer to receive this distinction. After completing his studies, he advised investment funds with a presence in the United States on tax planning and structuring, and compliance with their formal and material duties in the U.S.
In 2022, Mateo had the honor of clerking under Ecuador's Constitutional Court Chief Justice, where he was entrusted with high-complexity cases that significantly contributed to the development of Ecuador's legal landscape.
