COVID PCR testing is still a requirement for domestic flights between Quito and Guayaquil

Internal publications

The government emergency committee (COE) authorized the request of the Guayaquil’s municipal COE to issue an extension until July 21, 2020 for having COVID-19 tests carried out in the place of origin of flights between Quito and Guayaquil under the following rules:

  • Passengers with a negative PCR or quantitative test carried out in authorized laboratories up to 72 hours prior to boarding will be allowed to travel.
  • Those who do not have these tests can undergo rapid tests in authorized laboratories or at authorized points in airports up to 24 hours before the date and time of the flight.
    • If the qualitative rapid test is IgM positive, the traveler will not be allowed to board until an RT-PCR test is performed for confirmation and it shows a negative result.
    • If the qualitative rapid test only shows “C” and “T” (Control and Test) and does not show IgM/IgG, a positive T result will make the traveler ineligible for boarding until an RT-PCR test is performed for confirmation and it shows a negative result.
  • From 21 July 2020, random testing will be carried out at the airport of origin.
  • The concessionaires of Quito and Guayaquil Airports will coordinate control and testing with the health and municipal authorities.
  • For domestic flights, those who were in mandatory preventive isolation in temporary accommodation facilities do not require a negative RT-PCR test, since the certificate of completion of isolation issued by the Ministry of Public Health will be the enabling document to board the flight.
