Intellectual Property
Margarita has more than three decades of expertise in intellectual property. Her practice spans all aspects of trademarks, including advising on regulatory matters related to food and drugs, technical standards, consumer protection, advertising law, franchise agreements, and other contracts linked to the commercialization of intellectual property. She also advises on patents, utility models, industrial designs, and the negotiation of licensing agreements.
Currently, Margarita is the director of the social responsibility program of the Inter-American Intellectual Property Association (ASIPI) and a member of the Academic Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA). She is also on INTA’s Global Advisory Council for Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2024, she founded the Ecuador Chapter of Women in a Legal World (WLW), of which she is an officer. She is also in the Women on Boards cohort of the 30%+ Club Ecuador.
Margarita has been recognized as one of the top 250 intellectual property professionals by IP Stars. She is also ranked fifth in "Excellence in IP Management for Emerging Markets" by Women's IP World 2026.
