Mateo is a graduate of USFQ law school and holds a master’s degree in business law from Simón Bolívar Andean University. He is experienced in corporate, company and civil law, providing legal, business and transactional advice to clients in various sectors. He has gained this through his practice at the firm and from his time as in-house counsel at leading companies in sectors such as machinery manufacturing, medical technology and kidney medical care. He has particular experience in the representation and marketing of international automotive brands, guiding foreign investment in the Ecuadorian market.
Mateo’s corporate practice is centered on international business law and mergers & acquisitions. His work includes company formation and structuring, corporate governance, shareholders’ agreements, bylaw amendments, capital increases and decreases, change of corporate form, mergers, spin-offs, dissolutions and liquidations.
His background includes strategic expertise in corporate transactions, consumer rights, antitrust, compliance, due diligence, internal policies, regulatory compliance, complex commercial contracts, commercial and investment law, legal structuring and new lines of business, contract negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
In the areas of contracts and civil law, Mateo focuses on the negotiation, drafting and review of commercial contracts and marketing and distribution agreements. He also advises on business structuring, providing strategic guidance.
In the field of academia, Mateo is a teaching assistant and adjunct professor on courses at USFQ and Universidad Hemisferios in Quito.
